But, we're running trains!
We're home........lights are on....coffee's warm.......beer's cold.....stogies are lit....

TOC I think some of that rain will be heading our way Sunday. As for tonight it was perfect out.. I sat in the gazebo and just enjoyed a quiet time.

If one expects company (visitors), one should be home and the lights are on to indicate that.
OTOH "if the lights are on, but nobody's home" is slang for someone being .......... not too smart.

Coffee is usually served hot or warm in our geographic region at this time of year, beer on the other hand is cold year-round, cigars are usually lit to keep mosquitos and flies at bay.
Chomping on a cold cigar hmmmmmmmm let me think about that.

Shay crawling upgrade at Mehus Siding for a rolling meet with a downhill run.

Later, old #83 pulling a freight onto the east end of Mehus, westbound towards Mound House, holding for the uphill train with the right of way.

Busy at Mound House, one departing, one starting the evening's work.

One of the Big 2-8-0's having crested the grade, drifts into Whiterock to begin the switching needed there.

The Shay has made it to the top of the grade, backed onto the old switchback line with caboose, waiting for the uphill passenger to clear so work can commence.

Bert's train with Shay in the lead pulls into the Gorge on the New Line Grade coming up 4% while passing under the Bald Mountain Branch to Pete's Pit Mine. You can see the 10% grade on the bridge.

TOC, has your RR every been featured in GR? I know Marty's has although I missed that issue for I wasn't involved in trains again yet. The rail looks great TOC[;)] It would be nice to see a layout that is for operations.

These night shots are cool. I did get to turn off the lights in the shop and watch a Dash 9 glide along the track.

Good photos.However.I can't see the point in taking night time shots of trains.
Unless you have a sweeping curve of beautifully lit coaches or a train sitting in an intimately lit station.I've tried various ways and I have learned that the flash is the kiss of death to nightime model pictures.
Dave,you appear to be suffering with the wonders of Autumn (Fall) as I am.
Bits everywhere.For you on battery it does not have the same effect as it has on me (but we won't go there..[:D]
A 1:1 leaf has the same result whatever.

For someone who doesn't care you seem to have an extraordinary obsession with scale height of ties.
Some of the larger proto ties were on the D&RGW, the cross section measured 6x8".

PS Interpolating from the pictures I would say the ties are 5.75 x 5.75"

As, yes, Fall in the Great Pacific Northwest.
But, we should be about done with the fall of fall.
I lightened the shots a bit to allow visibilty of the content.
I could do a string of lit coaches, done it before, but Roy took out the LGB coaches which don't come with lights.
The Bachmann ones do.
Funny.
Wonder why that is.

It is interesting in the rain.
Pulling the lower setout in last night, normally one Shay pulls 28-34 loads, unassisted, no wheel slip, up 150' of 4% grade.
Double-headed with 2 Shays last night, slipping like crazy to get 24 up the hill....

I was being serious.The children,as I, want a city or town name so as to locate the people on the forum.

I don't care about manufacturers or anything else.

My children saw the leaves on your railway and assumed that you lived in the same temperate zone as we do.

Find Seattle, Washington State, just below British Columbia.
Now if you stood in Seattle and held your 30-.06 up at about a 44 degree angle, almost due east, and pulled the trigger, the round would land close to the CCRy....

No, I use an interesting new thing, it's called "maps on paper". I love it, no electricity needed, no monthy fees, and it has a feature called "notes" whereby you can input information directly onto the map with a device called a "pencil". These "maps on paper" should be available wherever "books on paper" are sold; i.e. a "book" store or the other place nobody goes, the public "library".

Very nice stuff, especially to check out prototype railways. Some of the resolution in some places is good enough to have them as a basis for track plans.
