G-Scale Motorized Roundhouse

I am looking to build a turntable and roundhouse for a Big Boy from ST Aubin. Almost as big as the USA Trains one. I found a 60in turn table here

For me $1400 is a lot of money even for this hobby, especialy if it aint pulling 8 cars and a tender. So I went to steamtown and photographed their roundhouse for a guide. The design of that house and table looks simple enough to copy in model form (it really has no elaborate features). My thoughts were to use a drill motor and photo sensor for the turntable. Theres a bunch of others out there but I cant remember where. Try looking under roundhouse instead I think thats how I found the most info.

Update: eaglewings iron works, 60" turntable over $2,000, all metal, I have seen their products in person, well made.

I looked at my saved links, no go, but I did find one place online that made them custom in all scales, including G, any length you wanted, set up for outdoors. They were expensive, between one and two thousand dollars for the size you wanted, if I remember correctly.

Keep searching the web, but use turntable as a keyword, since it is a company in the us. Roundhouse is the curved structure of stalls for locos, and roundabout is not in general use in the US other than to describe a circular street at the intersection of 2 or more streets.

I don't know of any. For something that big you may end up scratch building or kitbashing. Keep us posted as to what you do, this is an interesting problem............

Is there a company out there that makes a motorized Roundhouse large enough to support the Big-Boy Locomotive? The Big-Boy I’m referring to is the one at http://www.usatrains.com/usatrainsbigboy.html web page.

The above was taken directly from their web page. I have been searching everywhere for one but, to no avail. I recently found a web site that showed a Roundhouse that had a 60” Turntable which would be ideal for a Big-Boy Locomotive. I am not too sure about the stalls as far as their depth but, I think it was deep enough as well. Someone out there has to know of a company that has taken on the task of designing a Turntable/ Roundhouse specifically with big loc’s in mind.
Our garden is a whopping 27.5 meters long X 12 meters wide. So I can negotiate any turn I want with Big-Boy seeing as how this loc requires 8’ for it’s turning radius. 8’ equates to 2.44 meters.
