There is a switch behind the front boiler plate for tuening on the smoke unit.

Never leave it on with no fluid in the stack.

Just add smoke fluid to the inside of the smoke stack, 10 drops or so.

I have a Big hauler myself. Open up the smokebox door and throw the switch. Close the door and put about 7-10 drops of smoke. Remember to NEVER leave this switch on when your not using the locomotive!

What they said....

All that info should be in the sheets of documents that was packed with the Lokie along with maintanence and disassembly instructions, DO NOT throw these papers away!

Have fun with it.

Your little Indy is a perfectly fine little lokie, just remember it does have some limits, that being pulling capacity due to its light weight. Same problem the prototype had, these were tiny loco's in reality and had a limited pulling capacity of only a few cars. Most worked on plantations and industrial applications.

George Schrayer has some great suggestions to easily add enough wieght to make it a great little runner on his website (go to Sticky links topic at top of Gen Discussion page scroll down look for his name). Outside of the pulling capacity I have heard nothing bad about them. I just picked one up two weeks ago, Yellow Pine Lumber version. Havent decided if I'll leave it as is or add weight via a spare LGB Porter (Another great little engine to add to your roster) saddletank and convert my Indy into a 2-6-2T mini-Minaret lokie. Might leave it as-is since its a great looking little steamer.[:p]

I'll say Amen to Vic's comments. I added about 8 OZ. in the boiler of my Indy and it now easily pulls 4 freight cars or 3 passenger cars (probably more than the prototype would have pulled).

Hey Vic, [;)][:)][;)]

Have you heard that "Red Koolaid" affects one's vision?

The more one sips of it, the wider the respective "scale tolerance" tolerance becomes. I've heard it said that at mid-stage one might exclaim (upon seeing a new item in a Red Box): "Geeeeeeeeee, look at the beauty! The shiny finish! The brilliant colour! See how she runs!"
