Hi fritz morgan
My 4-6-0 stripped its grears and even split one.
Its currently away for a heart and lung transplant.
A friend of mine has machiend new metal gears and is fitting a bhuler motor (spelling)as well.
He tells me it is quite a big job so I will be waiting a while for it
regards John

Well, I've heard of a couple of 2-6-0's stripping gears, but never had one do it here (same box as 4-4-0).

Motor tight on box?
All I can figure is a misaligned box.
Pull the whole box and motor out and have them replace it.

LGB is the far and away winner in quality and durability. I've had excellent results with USA Trains and Aristo-Craft for more budget friendly companies. So far my experience with B'mann has been good, no problems yet.

That was one of the first things I checked after this happened the first time. All seems fine.

So... Sounds like it is might be a design issue if others are also having this problem.

Let me ask this question... What company do you think makes the best engines?

Some of the wheels may not be properly quartered, causing the mechanism to bind and put too much stress on the gearbox. Have you noticed the engine wobbling from side to side as it runs?

Bachmann has had many problems with stripped gears in their G-scale products. I have a 2-8-0 with stripped gears, and another member of our club has a 2-6-0 that came in a Big Hauler set with stripped gears.

Bachmann Stripping gears... HELP!
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, July 31, 2005 11:37 AM
Help! I have a Bachmann Spectrum 2-6-0 mogul and it keeps stripping the plastic gear inside the gearbox. I called Backmann last week and they sent me a replacemnet set. I installed the new gear this weekend and ran it for about an hour (pulling only one car on a flat layout) and the same gear stripped again! Its the 30 tooth to 11 tooth gear. The smaller 11 tooth gear always strips out.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions? I am calling bachmann again on Monday to see if they know what is up, but I am not to hopeful...

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
