Blackpool trams

Hi guys,

Took my camera into town today, a few pics of Troys favourites. There has been major work on the system and today was the first day day back to full services so a lot of variety.

This is Manchester square where the work took place renewing the pointwork to the depot, just under 1 million!!

The tower shows up well here

Very nice trams, we don't have anything like that where I live, just coal and frieght and a little Amtrack.

Nice one Kim.I can see I'm going to have to hire you for some pictures for my website.I'm glad you included some pictures of 147.She really is an old car now,but still going strong.(I think she has air brakes now? to save the oldies that can't get out of the way fast enough.)
Trams are an interesting and money saving thing to model.The US had a fantastic interurban service which were half train half tram.Good stand alone units without the need for an expensive consist.
I'm glad you posted this Kim as it's the first time I've seen a Standard car with the adverts and green trim lines between decks.I'll have to adjust mine!!
It's a shame that Blackpool is 'squaring' the cars.The rounded lines of the 'Balloons' is so pleasing to the eye.
The Glasgow tram is nearly finished.London 'E' class next, in between building a Deltic diesel for the boys.

Gentlemen i am impressed wow am i impressed, I have never seen a double decker tram in my life, didn't even knpow they existed are these in Blackpool Kim?

I am not really interested in trams but I would like to see them if they are aroind Kim when I'mover there.

Kim, I love your Blackpool trams too and enjoyed your pictures. I have many happy memories of the three days I spent there in 1998.

In 2002 I was in San Francisco and took this picture of one of your boat trams near Fisherman's Wharf. Previously I had seen this car in Philadelphia (my birthplace) when it was there in 1976 for America's Bicentennial. The San Francisco line includes cars from many places around the globe, including a number from Philly.

These trams are known as Boats.The US has 3.
As far as I know Blackpool still has 5.

The tram you've pictured is Boat No 603.It was at Philly until 1985.It then moved to California.

This used to be the 'Walls (a brand of icecream) Tram'
You used to be able to buy icecreams as you were riding the car.
Looks like it's changed adverts though so it's over to Kim
for the update !

You'll have to leave this one with me until I'm in town again, might go for a bike ride later on the south prom, that runs by the tracks so I'll keep my eyes open and see who's adverts are on it.

Kim, the lady we are doing our house swap with in north west Germany reckons it gets up to 30 to 35 degrees in summer, yet local Aussie German people reckon not, I imagine the weather would be very similar to UK.

Hi Ian,

Out typical summer weather is high 70's - low 80's farenhite, (sorry, I never know where I am in celcius except when the kettle boils) and quite humid at times. On the odd day it gets up into the high 80's but with living on the coast we usually have a refreshing breeze around somewhere. It's not unusual to get a right mixture of glorious morning sunshine to be replaced by pouring rain for the afternoon to go back to sunshine in the evening. We are controlled by the atlantic weather systems but our prevailing summer wind direction should be south west which then brings an azores high over us and we are off on a nice dry spell, in some years they can last for a couple of months. We have friends who live in Milton Keynes in the middle of the country and it does get warmer and more humid there. I suspect Germany will have a different controlling weather system being on a huge landmass but temperature wise?, you can only see as you find mate.
