do you all try to run your trains at real speed or hyper speed?

well i run my R R almost every day if i am feeling ok some day's its good some days i don't. fell 2 weeks ago friday was hurt for a few days didnt run. thank God didn't break anything. but had to run at higher speeds then normal for charging sound system.
i am okay now just bruised and black & blue.
back to regular scheduled running.

My Bachmann 4-6-0 has Smoke and Chuff Sound [no Whistle Yet] and pulls an Identical 4-6-0 which has the Drivers disconnected from the Gears but the Smoke and Sound still functions and the 5 Gondolas are loaded ,[with simulated Ore] with a Caboose and operated as SLOW as possible for the Chuffing Effect and still make Smoke are a big hit with the Fence Crowd. I operate on Saturday and some People make a special Trip to see the Operation. I also operate a 0-4-0 Forney with a Gondola [empty] and a Caboose on the same Track Power. Two other 4-6-0 which are disabled are at Mine Sites doing Yard Work [Static Displays] . All in All a good time is had .

I like to run mine at a slow speed, and I also have lionel, and my C420 Lehigh Valley came with an oddesy system(speed control) so I let it lumber very slowly, and it does not stall. I also try to keep my Aristo RS3 at a slow speed, but the lights come on at a higher speed

i some times run fast to charge sound battiers then back to slower speeds.

My steam engine I generally will run slow . And most of the time I run my diesel's slow , I would guess around 30 smph. But sometimes i'll crank it up and let it fly ! Watching a 30 car train rip along with all its clickty clack and squeek sounds is fun .

I have put my digital camera on a car and made short Quicktime movies and almost made myself sick watching. Things have slowed down since then. It really is an eye opener touring the rails at "G" level.

When I am running my cleaner car I run it pretty fast. Oherwise, I like the slow moving pace.

Scale speed: On my HOm operating layout (8 mainline cabs, prior to DCC-time) I "fixed" the problem; freights were assigned designated slow throttles. Yard cabs were even slower.

Tip for those who don't know yet; take your camcorder and shoot some video of your trains at speed.
Watch it on TV and you'll see what I mean! Unless you know what scale speed is all about. [:o)][;)][:)][:)]

I like to run my trains slow, that way I can take it all in. Cat enjoy somthing thats gon in few seconds. Hower I have been know to pu***he trotel when some asks how fast it can go ( For a few short seconds ).

A few months ago I published some calcualtions I dod on my ICE train.
I think it did about 90 km per hour, 40 metres in 20 seconds X 22.5 I worked it out but Im not sure of the time now.

The ICE train is my fastest and can it go; it is a tilt train and it really gets along as it is powered at both ends and runs on 24V AC.

That's what I like the most about the AirWire900 wireless, battery-powered DCC system from CVP products -- everything can be run at a nice slow pace which is much more realistic and enjoyable than having things running so fast that a steam engine's side rods are just a blur and about to fly off from the inertia. I run only two Bachmann Spectrum 1:20.3 scale steam engines, their 2-8-0 and 2-6-0, and don't want them to run fast because the prototypes didn't.

i grew up doing most things quickly job's driving and etc. i lived near a switching yard so they always moved slow when switching. so i all ways thought of trains as being slow. but then again i lived near miami iter airport need for speed go and watch airoplanes.

I'm new to LS and the only track I have is a 6 ft. straight section on the workbench. So, all my running, tests, have been at very low speed. I find myself enjoying the low velocity for watching the Shay's cylinders operate. I think when the day comes that I have a graden layout I will still be running at low or scale speeds. IMHO, moving at speeds that set your hair on fire is for things that fly [:)]

I think scale speeds are an important part of LG modelling. If I didn't like seeing my locos moving at a near walking pace I wouldn't be wanting to model logging tramways would I?

Since by UK law all 'light railways' have a top speed of 25mph I run mine at prototypical speeds circa 6,8 and 15mph (the express train)

Mine takes about 13/4 minutes to go around the 175 ft of track i have,out side,most of the time, with just the engine on, i'll run it faster some times . ben

The live steamers slightly faster than "scale" speed, but not quite at sonic velocities, either. The sparkies trundle around merrily at a nice scale speed. (Of course, right now I have a whopping 60' of track down. I can't run them fast or I'll get dizzy watching them.)
