Have fun with your trains

Rail is not so much a problem. Brass, Nickel Silver, Stainless Steel or Aluminimum, will all work outside.
The thing you might have to be careful about is the plastic used in the sleepers/ties. If it is not UV treated to cope with UV rays from the sun it might go brittle and fall apart over time (depending the area you live in). Peco, UK also make O gauge track for out doors.
Here is another post in which the same question was aksed:

I have three rail outside.
I use Atlas Nickle silver track, and the ties are UV rated. The track rides in roadbed, just like guage 1. It has survived last spring, summer, and the worst winter since 1911! No problems to report so far...

Yeah.....Peco makes great track. I don't think you'll have a problem. We had an O gauge set up outdoors in the late 60s....so with modern stuff you'll do just fine.
