We use the term freely, but really, what does it take to be a bonafide "curmudgeon"? Do you have to be a certain age to become a curmudgeon, or is it a state of mind?

I'd vote for the latter. I know a few of our fellow members who exhibit all the earmarks of curmudgeondom but who are barely into their thirties.

According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, a curmudgeon is discribed as 'a crusty, ill-tempered, and usually old man.'[|(]

You've about got it!
Ornery, irascible, always right, that kind of stuff....

You remember as kids playing outside and the old coot in the big, old, original house on the street used to yell at you for making too much noise or knocking your ball into his yard?

How does a curmudgeon relate to an old fart, I undersatnd that i officially became one when I retired.

I am certainlly not crusty nor ill tempered. I will be 70 in December next year and my interests are garden model railways, watching young women, surfing, my grandchildren, travel particularly international, sex and writing. i rarely lose my temper and get on very well with young people to the extent I am a mentor at the local high school.

So what does all that add up to? well i don't know a pretty happy old bloke i guess.

"Old Fart," I believe, is an early manifestation of Curmudgeonicity. If you keep up with you hobbies and railroad, you can stop the downward cycle!

If anyone wants to donate to the Curmudgeon Prevention Fund and Railroad Stipend Burse (CPFRSB) send pfennigs and farthing to you nearest Garden Railroader. And remember...for the Price of a Cup of coffee a day you could..er...have a cup of coffee. [:)]

Curmudgeon- Grumpy guy who lurks on Large scale forums like a submarine after a battleship. Also Knowledgable in Radio control and not afraid to voice his opinion. Strangely enough likes Flat head V8's for some reason????
