I don't use it much in the asylum, but I have a bottle of USAT and a bottle of CREST. I try to use nothing but CREST in my Aristo Pacific, which doesn't get run much 'cause it's too big for asylum curves[:D]

Cigars.
Looks better and smells better.
Other than that, I generally cut the units out and throw them in a drawer.

Waste of time. They only make them so they'll burn out & you buy another one etc etc

I said other. I don't really think the units smoke enough to be worth while, if smoke is a necessity go Live Steam [:D] Although a smoke unit might smoke enough to be used in a caboose or passenger car to simulate a stove, that might be kinda cool, but maybe not worth the effort.

It may look good, thats when we get a still day, which windy Wellington Nz is not known for.
For those that do use smoke fluid, if you want the real good stuff visit your local Fire Station. Get the stuff they use in the smoke generators for breathing set practice.

Previous advice was to use www.shutterfly.com for your pics. I tried it and it works. Best of all it`s free.

Gentlemen

i would love to have decent smoke fluid but I only use LGB as I have been given to understand that if you use anything else you may void your smoke generators warranty.

However not only am i dissatisfied with LGB smoke fluid but also I am unhappy with their smoke generators and i have two both of which have died at an early age.

What is the best smoke fluid and does anyone have any idea of where i can get it in this country.

I was doing some electrical work at a fire training centre today and remembered what Tony mentioned.Got a gallon of the good stuff.Tried it tonight in the only smoke generator I have left.
Wow
Works like a dream. It's slightly thicker than the LGB stuff.(which I've never really had that much success with)
I'll have a look at the container it come out of tomorrow to see what it's called,or made of.

I Mix LGB with Magic Smoke. Resaults Very Very good. Even the Guy at RR Station was impressed.

As for ordering you can get it from San Val Trains. Just $4.99[^]

I just too recently tried fog machine liquid (smoke generator machine) in one of my Aristo's, so far so good, how long will the smoke gererator in the engine last, well thats anybodys question, since the product is not their own, but the volume of smoke is alot denser, and considering $5.00 CAD for a small little bottle of Crest fluid as to $20.00 CAD for a GALLON of smoke machine fluid; I think I'm on to something!!!!! The reason I've tried this method is I own a smoke machine, and to me the principle is the same, smoke oil be forced into a hot element by a blower, and I too am a firefighter and have been through the smoke filled room drills!!!!

underworld,
Crest, for Crest electronics - the electronic division of Polk's model craft hobbies, or Aristo-Craft!

I've had moderate success using crest in my Aristo stuff, would like something a bit darker in color so as to be more visable outdoors.

Generally only use smoke for open house days or when having company over!

I haven't used smoke fluid for a long time. Ran out of the tube that came with my original set and never bought more. No one noticed the smoke anyway. Spankybirds pic looks pretty good though, I may give it another try. A stub of a well smoked cigar may work even better. May have to try that. Hadn't thought of that before. [;)]

ian i got a replacement for my LGB Mogul and it is a new unit. It works allot better than the stock one[^]. Also i use Magic smoke (spelling?) you can order it from San Val Trains, they advertise in garden railways.

Forget the waranty, i use too only use non LGB smoke fluid and the smoker lasted for 7 years. the waranty ranout way before the unit broke.

I settled down with JT Mega Steam and use it in all my smokers, LGB, MTH and Aristo wick type, gave up on Bachman
Tryed about all of the different brands and the Mega Steam smokes more and seems to keep the wicks cleaner, longer.
