Looking for Lionel G scale BN GP20
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, January 13, 2005 1:25 AM
I am looking for a good used Lionel Large Scale Burlington Northern GP20. I have a MTH O scale, 3 rail, Nickel Plate Road SD9 that I would like to trade for, or I can pay cash depending on the price. Thanks Mike

Evil-bay, or try to hit every train swap meet in your area and use an old car swap meet trick , wear a placard around your neck saying "Wanted: Lionel Large Scale Burlington Northern GP20, will trade or buy" that way if a vendor or visitor has it or knows someone who does, they can approach you and you dont have to ask every person you meet. That LS Lionel stuff is quickly becoming the stuff of ancient history is G now, amazing how fast stuff vanishes after a manufacturer stops producing it (Big Haulers exepted)

First question is why?
The sound systems draw horrendous power with the voltage board.
4 motors. Not a real efficient design.
And, it's 1:32. Won't quite look good with your "LGBF7".
Later ones were better, but still.

I got rid of the LGBF7, but dont know how to change my screen name. I prefer a low short hood gp unit, I like the four motor design and I plan to replace the sound system before the unit goes in service. I have been watching ebay. Thanks for the responces

I also like the looks of the GP20 over the usa GP9. I also have easy access to lionel parts as I am a repair tech for the local Lionel shop. I guess its beauty in the eye of the beholder. So, if anybody had one that they want to unload, let me know. Cheers Mike

Got one, while not in the BN paint scheme, thats easily changed. Pick up a new in the box Milw unit at Niagira hobbies in NY today. it has only the signal sounds, horn and bell, runs whisper quiet to. I will upgrade it to full railsounds as they have the BEST GP9 sounds of anybody, and before you all rant and rave, I have heard both soundtraxx sierria and Phoenix systems, and neither quite have the correct GP-9 prime mover growl. I know as I used to run and work on the loco I am modeling, Our short line had 2 GP9's and 2 GP10's. and for the money, I can get the RS.4 upgrade sounds boards for $99.95 and they are plug and play in this unit. Just need to find a winterization hatch, four matching non turbo exhaust stacks and either build or find a Horst air filter box for behind the cab. Being a non dynamic unit, it already has the correct fans and exhausts for a GP9, inspite of what lionel calls it. Cheers Mike

Hehehe, Isnt this always the case? Someone asks "Hey I need XYZ and I cant find it anywhere on ebay" then they wait and wait, then they finally get one. Thats when they will suddenly show up on ebay, usually in multiples.....[;)]
