Mr Marl Boro
Great to have you here. I checked your profile and found no name. So i'm at a lose on how you are.
You'll love this forum, great folks. You do have to watch out for Rene, she the boss and is very nice but has a strong arm.

Is it REAL? or Just 1:29 scale?

Thanks for the welcome Ben!!!! Capt Johnson, I m sorry for your unfortunate brush with cigarettes, but I m named the marlboro man from the old biker movie; not the brand of cigarette. I m a Harley rider!!!!. Hey Marty, check your e-mail, you ll know who I am; and regarding the boss Rene, the strong arm, I ll be very enticed to talk to her, that is if she likes bikers who play with trains. Like the song; No one knows what goes on behind closed doors!!!!

Marl, does this mean I can't use your name? Just put it in your profile.
A big strong biker kinda guy should not have a problem with that?? Unless ofcourse he "plays" with trains. heheheh, good to have you here.
BTY
This is what makes it really hard knowing whos who at conventions. tring to remember the real name and the sig name and put it to the face.
I would change my name on MLS but it would take to long to change all my photo urls on who knows how many sites.

Is it REAL? or Just 1:29 scale?

So Marty, you HAVE made the connection haven t you. No problem, Charlie M is my name, harley s and trains is my game!!!! I m just gotten used to be called Marlboro Man over the last years, You just tend to sort of answer to that name, regardless of your real name. Nothing to hide, just comes with the territory, I guess being a rider!!!!

[#welcome] Marboro Man, you will have a great time here. Movie was awesome, and bikers always have a good heart. Biker and trains, could make for an interesting layout. Have seen Harley trains, Harley buildings, and of course the namesake bikes. Now how do you model 200 bikers on a two lane road on your 4 x 8 layout ?????

again Welcome Marboro

Thank you for the kind words, I look forward to our future exchange of ideas. What are some of your thoughts on Large Scale layouts in general? Steam or diesel?

Again thanks and welcome,

Thanks for the great welcome guys, and I m sure even gal railroaders!!! My main interest is DIESEL !!!! It s big and its born to be BAADD!!!! Nevertheless, I m now taken back to the steam era, They are so grand those beasties. Being a fireman too, I have put together steamer fire engines, you know the one with the big boiler in the back, with a coal lit fire breathing up it s behind (I ll be kind about that one). Steam is what started it all, and I m now considering to invest in a big steam loco, not sure what type yet, but workin on it. Got an SD-45 CP; 2 BNSF Heritage II Dash niner pumpkins, And a CN Dash niner so far. I ve only started last year, being 1 year now that I ve gotten into G-Scale. Done the previous in HO, loved it, have many many sets and track and then DISCOVERED G scale. Who says size isn t everything, to me it is, but its also the QUALITY !!!! And BTW, my good friend Marty mentioned this Rene gal with a strong arm. How do you get to talking to a gal like that, she ll need two arms to hold on to me !! Just foolin with ya Rene in case you read this, and YOU BETTER. I want to know who I m dealing with. Thank You for having me!! regards Marlboro Man

Marlboro,

This forum is rich in "First Amendment" freedoms (for those unfamiliar with the U.S. Constitution of 1787: the first addtion to the U.S. Constitution was a Bill of Rights made up of ten Amendments that provide rights and due process of law...

"Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." -U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights

(sorry, guys, always the teacher I guess)

Unlike other political forums I have lately visited, any and all topics can be covered and re-covered provided they are not overly commercial or pornograpic (albiet, prose around he has come close to the line before) [:-^]

I must approve of your Diesel habit, I'm of the more steam locomotive pursuasion! Maybe latter, after my line is done (trackwise, for a layout is never truely done), I might run some modren motive power. I may even build modern versions of my currently built structures.

God Bless you, the firemen, you walk to hell to save the life even at the expense of your own. There can be no greater calling than to touch the very cape of the Devil and then spit in this face. A well earned salute!!!

MM,

Welcome to the forum, glad to have you. Since you’re a harley rider maybe you can explain something to me. Why is it necessary for those bikes to be so LOUD? Would their performance be compromised if a good muffler were installed?

They have to be loud as an attention getter!! You put that kind of money into being cool, you want everyone to notice> Actually, I've known a few that are quite quiet; the people just enjoy the riding without all the noise and commotion. Friend of mine down the road is like that! You seldom even hear him go by, unlike some of those people with the

[#welcome] MM hope you have a great stay here.

Walt,

The best way to answer that question would be, that Capt. Bob is right. Attention is definately the main draw for it a person I know when asked why he liked his bike to be that loud simply answered " You looked when you heard it right?" Another reason could be to some people the sound of a Harley is akin to the sound of mother's heartbeat, and if you can hear it it's great, if you can feel it it's even better. I am an aircraft mechanic by trade and there is something about the sound of powerful engines that just gets to you, some of the old radial (round) engines are just so amazing to hear when they start. Like the Pratt & Whitney 985 it's 9 cylinders with 985 cubic inch displacement and it basically sounds like you just started 4 and a 1/2 Harleys all at once. That is definately along the lines of being able to hear and feel the power that the engine is putting out.

Take care all

Rastun,

Your comments are right on the mark and the description of engine sounds being comforting to some people is also right on. I too love the sound of old radial engines, but we’re in a definite minority. And besides, you have to go to an airport to hear them. You don’t see too many 9-cylinder radials being revved up downtown.

The story of your bike rider friend is flawed. If I pulled down my pants in the middle of town because I wanted attention, I'd get it. But I'd probably also get arrested. Why? Because most people would be offended by the sight and therefore it’s against the law. Most people are also offended by that ear-busting noise coming from those unmuffled motorcycle pipes but we have no laws against that, why?

If only the Marlborough man could spell his name correctly instead of the terrible bastardisation in common use in the US. In any case he doesn' like to use his given name because it is Susan.

In any case pleased to make your aquaintance

Yo, MM, welcome....... heck of an entry, I've never seen such flack from some members of this forum before. (newbies yet). Give everyone a chance, most all are real decent folk with lots of good stuff regarding Garden Railroading and Large Scale in General.
