2021 National Convention news
Posted by Rene Schweitzer on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 10:14 AM

We're fortunate in that this year's national convention (Nashville)  has been sharing lots of news with us. We've created a news page that we'll continue to update as we learn more.

Sign up for the newsletters on the convention website. I remember reading that the club negotiated for a lower daily parking rate.

Thanks Rene, I see that it was mentioned in the December newsletter as $10 per day, that's better!

The club has asked me to mention that registration rates increase as of February 1.

The e-mail from the convention said $10 a day , so you will have to watch and make sure they give you our rate when you check in

I received word from the convention folks about the recent tornadoes in the area:

Hi all, we wanted you to know that members in the Nashville Garden Railway Society are all confirmed safe after the storms and tornadoes that went through central Tennessee early this morning. A few members had layout damage including our club president, as well as the Fiddler's Grove Train Museum and layout.

The 2020 NGRC Convention will still occur as scheduled and we are grateful that railroads can always be rebuilt. We are sorry for the devastating loss of lives so far, and hope you will all keep this region in your prayers. Our club members are working together to repair and restore all railroads before the start of the convention and we are still greatly looking forward to sharing our Southern Hospitality with you!

Again, all of our club members are safe and we look forward to seeing you all in Nashville, TN.

Another update from the convention folks:

Regarding the Coronavirus outbreak, we are closely monitoring all COVID-19 information. At present, the Opryland Hotel and Resort is holding all events scheduled for May and beyond. This means all parties are accountable for room reservations along with the rental of the Exhibition Hall, including the 2020 National Garden Railroad Convention. We are hopeful in the next few weeks we will see a noticeable reduction in new cases of COVID-19 in the US and the convention will proceed as scheduled. We wish you good health as the country works our way out of this pandemic. We will provide further updates as warranted.

Let's all pray that this happens, although with the President asking for everyone to shelter in place for the entire month of April, that makes May almost a miracle.

Don't get me wrong, I have reservations and have paid for the show, but it seems iffy.

More convention news. Looking like they may need to push the convention back, if the hotel lets them.

Renee,

While this certainly comes as a disappointment, please pass along to Nashville Garden Railway Society that their courtes, professional, and timely communications set a real standard!
