How to make GRRs mag Grow.
Posted by Marty Cozad on Saturday, January 1, 2005 9:01 PM
I was at Wally Mart tonight looking for GRRs mag and there was NONE. NO Model Railroader, no train nothing??????
Bummer this is so wrong!!!!!
Then I realized how to make the magizine GROW.
Girls
Martha , Rene , all the staff of GRYs mag one at a time needs to stand by the featured RR in a bikin with a big smile holding a train.
That would be great eye catcher.
I'm not sure Marc H. or Kevin should be on , kinda like the body builder ones or sports ones.
Hey its a though, I just want to help.[^]

Is it REAL? or Just 1:29 scale?

Marty.....what did YOU do New Year's Eve?
Involve bottles and the liquid therein?

I know how to get it to grow.
Grind it up to a mulch, plant it outside, water it and let the sun get at it for a while...

Isn't February the swimsuit issue Marty. I heard Post Office workers working in the back of the P.O. this morning and ask if my Garden Railways Mag. had come in today but they couldn't find it (benefits of living in a small town) maybe Monday.

If GRRs needs to lower its self too have a page three girl then some thing is terribly wrong with the content of the mag.
I would have thought a well rounded mag with stuff for the beginner to the master craftsman should be enough.
and a reasonable purchase price
Failing that a good bit oh fertilizer and deep watering might help thats what all the garden guru's say[:D]

You gotta be Joking........ That would be the death knell for this mag and rightly so. That why there's Page3! If this mage is to grow perhaps more info on Live Steam could be included ..... alot more on GRR on a budget.... More family inclusive stuff.......... Marty, you put up quite a Lightning Rod.

Just wait until Rene reads this on Monday!!!! She is going to think you've gone crazy. i will say that Marty's suggestion would make GR more likely ot keep up with that car mag and motorcyle mag "Lowrider."

John....a question:
"I would have thought a well rounded mag with stuff for the beginner....."

we ARE talking trains, right?
Maybe the "well-rounded" is the nose of an "F" unit?

Yeah.
Right.

I remember my old Railroad and Railfan magazines with that stuff........

Oh you guys, man it was just an idea!!!!
You take the family to the swiming hole or beach, whats the difference?
Even the model airplane one had a young lady holding a plane. Besides we are talking about catching folks eyes at the news stand.
Thats why GRYs changed the cover page to the way it is.
How about just a pretty face??? Like TOC's,,
Or Aristo talks about the WOOW factor. I have a large photo that Eric took one day of me sitting on the mountain and I thought about doing the same shot with my two younger sons in it.
I'll find that photo and resize it.
Heres the photo

Its a little large pixel wise, may load slow.
This isn't bad, I'm showing alittle skin!!!![;)]

Benny, you may be right. I think the hobby would grow more if the magazine was out there more. How about sitting on the rack next to the Garden railroad for beginners book at a garden center next to alll the other gardening books?

I've often thought that opening a large scale train store with in an existing garden center would be great! " Oh you need ballast, it's in the bin next to the mulch"[;)]

Marty,
It's a statistical fact that there are remarkable similarities between nubile female bodies & model trains......
Both are designed for children & get played with by men!

On New Year's Eve I was offered Super Sex....I opted for the soup....

Other than what Phil said, theres nothing out of line.
It was meant to be light hearted, besides , its on the shelf at Wally Mart, how much more FAMILY centered can you get???

I don't think most people realize how big G scale is, and having a person on the cover would bring out the WOOW factor.
A company catolog is aimed at train people, GRYs mag is a news stand item also, it should CATCH the eye.
OK,,OK I will delete my photo if there is too much skin showing..[:I][:o)]
Hey heres a cover ," news stand shot".

folks walking by would look at say, what is that? I did not know they had trains that big. COOOL, and buy the magizine....[^]

Do you all get my point?? Even an N scaler or a punk rocker would stop and pick up a copy with this on the cover.

I see a lot of scantily clad attractive nubile bodies and never tire of it and thats a good thing. Any one know what "nubile" means; well i think iy means marriagable well thats what my dictionary says anyway.

Getting on the GRR magazines I don't read them and I put them in the same class as hobby shops. So I don't really care if the burn down, close down or go out of business although I don't like to see anyone gp broke or lose their jobs.

Hmmmmm, there's a holiday weekend and everyone goes crazy. [:0][:D] I have often joked about putting something on the cover that says "naked trains" or something similar to catch the eye. But I just can't seem to get that through. . .

And no, we're not in Wal-mart. It's very difficult to get in their stores (lots of competition). [V]

OH, HI Rene
ol bud , pal
hope you had a good weekend.
The most common statement when people come to visit our RR is,, We have never seen or heard of anything like this.
That just bugs me.
My wife is into scrap booking big time. she now goes on all nighters with her friends. Which is good when i go visit train buds.
Word of mouth is making that hobby big and there is a need to keep photos in the history of our lives.
There was a scrap booking mag there at Wallymart.
Got to do something???????
But what?????
Tell you what, when my speedo gets here I'll try couple of winter shots with me holding a train and I'll send it in as a "poster Boy" for garden railways..

Marty,

I beg you, rethink this latest idea of yours concerning photos of yourself, speedos, and trains, please. I've got a bad feeling that this might set the hobby back quite a few years.

Speedos are commonly referred to here as budgie smugglers.

As happens many times i lose the meaning of this thread and I really dont know what it is all about. You have used words that i am familiar with but have no idea of what they all mean together.
