Xmas night visit-but it wern't Santa!

Dec 24th. 5:30 am

Dog barking wakes me up, next thing I hear is a guy talking to himself loudly saying ' Dude, I'm ready to go" . in between his talking he's graoning something fierce in obvious pain.

I realize hes getting louder because he's walking up onto my front porch! the guy is drunk, very drunk....very very drunk.

I'm up and near the door just in case the guy tries coming in..instead i hear...
"here kitty ditty! Ah come on lemme pick ya up kitty kitty!" ......the guys on my porch ...because he wants to pet our cats.....Ohhhh kayyyeeeee..

He then struggles over to the side of the porch and says "whaccha barking at doogie?" then rolls down past my truck. I'm on the phone to 9-11 by now I have the door open now ( I have a security screen on it) I tell the guys I'm talking to 9-11 (I was worried he would do something to my truck) but the guys apologizes and says he's "9-11 ready to come and get me." and he starts walking down the street, still groaning.

well about 15 minutes later the cops arrive shining there spots up and down the street, we havent heard anything from the guy since he left, so I go out to the squad car and talk to the cops, explain what happened and tell them which way he went, the cops head up to the end of the street to turn around and I walk back to the house. As I reach the sidewalk i look down the sidewalk and i notice barely visable in the shadows of my nieghbors house what looks like a small trash bag left on the side walk. I walk over to investigate and realize the bag has shoes! Its the guy, curled up in a fetal position out cold! Luckily the cops by now were turned around and heading back , i flag them down and say "your not going to believe this, and point to the guy whos no more than 20 feet from my truck, thats as far as he got. he was only about 40 feet from where I had been talking to the cops!

We'll they manage to wake him up. Hes a clean cut looking young man, early 20's. He has no idea where he is, how he got there, very quit, and obviuolsy in need of help, so we get the whole show, ambulance, firetruck, police supervisor. They get the guy onto a stretcher and take him away. The cop tells me he was very drunk and disoriented and that they here taking him to the hospital. So every one leaves and I try to back to bed, its 6:30 by now...Whatta way to start Christmas...

Now forward now to evening, its 10;00pm we've just finished watching The Two Towers, and theres a knock on the door, I think its one of my nieghbors, I open the door and its the guy! Turns out his name is Chris, and he was trying to piece the night before together, he lost his truck, his keys, and apparelty about 6 hours. So I went out and talked to him, he said he woke up in the hospital and in all likelyhood had had alcohol blood poisoning when we found him. I shudder to think what might have happened if he passed out where we couldnt see him he could have gone into a coma.!

He had just gotten out of the hospital and with his girlfriend was trying to pick up the pieces. he was at a party somewhere nearby, left (in his car) got disoriented and pulled over, walked away and got lost and eventually ended up on my porch. He eventually found his car a street away but couldnt find his keys. I suggested he come back sunday when he could walk around in daytime and look. he left me his phone number if I found them, he thanked me several times for calling 9-11 because he didnt know what would have happened if he had been left out there for several hours in the cold!

So he left, thats my Christmas story for this year and the moral is..dont drink to much, dont let your friends drink too much, and for Gods Sake, dont drink and drive...call a cab, and if you find someone too drunk to walk, call 9-11. Dont let them sleep it off! It may be permanent!

Hey Vic,
I always maintain it's no accident he ended up on your porch where help was available. Sure hope he appreciates the "second chance" in life. Thanks for sharing the story. I bet every year from now on that one will always come to mind. Later eh...Brian.

Vic whats 911, is that the local pizza shop? do you think he was hungry or were you?

In any case if you had any guts about you, you would do what we do on Christmas Eve and thats go skinny dipping, where are you Vic; do a bit of living

911 is what you call, dare I say dial, if there is an emergency. 411 is for information.

Ian, anyone can go skinnydipping in a pool here, but to do it in the ocean means diving into a winter shore that the rains have just flushed all the $%#@ out of the sewers and into the ocean. No thanks, I dont want to dodge offshore floaters and other ickkie things...[;)]

Yes Danny you are right, I was just gently reminding my mate Vic that this is an international forum and what is common knowledge in one country may not even be known in another.

Vic you are right about the sewage, we have done something about it here on the Sunshine Coast and we have no pollution at all and any one that pollutes gets fined very large fines and gets kicked out of Queensland.
