Progress on my little raised railway
Posted by emdmike on Monday, May 15, 2017 5:14 PM

Here are some new pics of my little raised railway.  Took them on mothers day before we headed to a family gathering.  I have started to back fill the planter box style layout with peat.  I have some more addations since these pics were taken, so more pics will get posted later this evening.

The LGB 2073d has a 6 cell RC car battery pack inside the boiler.  I split the battery pack into two rows of 3 cells, one row in each saddle tank and removed the lead LGB weights from the middle of the boiler.  A simple on/off toggle switch is just behind the rear driver on the fireman's side.  She will run about 6 hours on a charge with a 45min recharge time.  Battery is an Onyx 5500mah, 7.2vt Nimh.      Mike

Looks nice!  We love our LGB 0-6-2T; I am way to timid to try cutting it up for battery power though!

Really wasnt any cutting per say.  Just two holes, one for the toggle and one for the charging port. The rest was just unscrewing the cast lead weights and putting them and their screws in a zip lock bag, removal of the wheel pickup brushes and putting them in that same bag.  I can make the engine 95% original and back on track power if I want to. Only the two small holes would be evidence it was ever converted if I switched it back.  Its sooooo nice to not have to clean track to run trains!!!   And thank you for your reply.  Seems we have a bunch of lurkers here, love to look at posts, but say nothing encouraging or other nice comments about ones progress on his layout.  Mike

I have covered the peat with cyprus mulch, salvaged ballest from the old ground level line and have about 3/4 of the outer loop done.  I am going to add two potted dwarf alberta spruce trees around the fountain then backfill that area with just mulch, this will allow easy removal of the fountain for winter storage.  Mike
