Repairing cracked LGB ties with adhesive
Posted by NSColsMP6 on Friday, December 16, 2016 12:47 AM

I use LGB track clips to keep my LGB track sections together.  The end ties on many sections of track now have cracks in the ties (after many years of use).

I have a few model train related adhesives such as Tenax 7R and Bondine as well as a few others...  would any of these work to fix the cracks?

What have others done to address this issue?

My ties cracked after months of service using these clips.  I have considered, but not employed, simply gluing a piece of scrapwood to the underside of the ties.  I am not sure what glue I would use, though, given the dissimilar materials.

Mark, I used some wood scraps and "Gorilla glue" on a test piece.  I put the strips in the hollow underside of the tie, glued it, and clamped it over night.  Seems to work.  Meanwhile, I am removing those LGB track clips as I see them to prevent more breaks.

Aloha,

Eric
