In memoriam: Jim Strong

This is fine with me, Bob. Given the connection to our magazine and Marc Horovitz, Marc wanted to write up something to share here.

Thanks for posting this, Rene. It's been a long, sad week for us to be sure, but the prayers and condolences coming from the garden railroad community around the world have been very uplifting. Dad loved trains, he loved garden railroading, and he loved sharing his hobby with others. It's largely that desire to share his hobby which inspired me to start writing for Garden Railways. I've lost my favorite and most inspiring co-conspirator, but I've got 40 years of "playing trains" together to continue to keep me going. Dad was never short on ideas, so I've still got lots of things on the "to do" list thanks to him.

 

The Woodland Railway will continue operations, under the care of my mom and a small crew of operators who want to keep his memory alive. (I spent a good part of this past week getting things ready for this year's operating season while I was back east.)

 

Thanks again for the prayers and condolences. Many of us have never met personally, but we're all connected through our love of garden railroads.
