HO scale hand-pushed ore cart for my G-Scale Silver Mine.
Posted by dburrous on Friday, August 7, 2015 1:32 PM

Can anyone direct me to a source for an HO scale hand-pushed ore cart for my G-Scale silver mine?  The track coming out of the hopper is HO, so I'm looking for a cart whose wheels will fit the HO track.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Regards,

db

Hi Rene:

Thanks for your quick response.

Here's the problem:  The Comstocks stuff "18 gauge" is tiny.  That's because, I think, it's ore cars to use in an HO layout, which means that it's smaller than HO.  I've got a G scale layout, so I need an ore car that is actually HO size, ie it will fit on regular HO scale track.

I purchased 2 HO Mine Cars from Durango Press and they are miniscule.

So, that's my problem; finding ore cars that actually are HO size and not 18 gauge.

Thanks for your help.

Regards,

db

Have a look at Pico & Pala stuff. A few years back I did much the same as I think you are talking about. I picked up a couple of European side dumping ore cars, the cargo box pivots to one side to dump. You will want to do a bit of "bashing". I removed the wheel hand brake and installed a lever type brake handle, replaced the couplers with a pin and link system. After spending just over a week getting everything in place and working the way I wanted it was damaged beyond repair when my dogs evicted a stray cat from the yard before I could get pictures.

Have a look at Marklin dump car item # 4413. If you plan on power for the mine rails you will need to swap out the wheel/axle sets as this one is for their 3-rail DC system. Rails are same polarity, inner third "rail" is opposite polarity. The axle & wheels are not insulated.
