$50might get just one of ya thru the door, add food, drinks, souveneers,... I hope you got a second mortgage before entering![:p]

Rene, the bigtime stadium seat theater here in Pasadena charges $9.50 !, $7.50 matinee, add $2 parking and the obligatory $3 popcorn and $3 coke, it can be quite a chunk of change going to a show at night out here. But this theater singlehandedly put 2 older non-stadium multi-plex's out of business! Even I have to admit, I would have hated seeing LotR anywhere else!

We try to hit the matinee's and go on Sundays so we can street park for free. Takes a bit of the edge off.[8D]

Ya, seeing movies is getting pricey--costs $8.50 (US) here. And matinees are $6.50 still! (Didn't they used to be 1/.2 price?)

Well rene, we went to see it and my two young boys did not want to go.
I was impressed with the detail, the realism of the kids in the show. And the sound was my favorite after reading about it in TRAINS mag.
But to be honest, i was bored through it. As my wife said, i only when to it cause it had a train in it.
I guess we are just used to lazer guns and jet fighters.
Our tiny theater here in town had 6 people in it so I found it hard tring to figure out where to sit. To many choices.

Well we finally went to see Polar Express, Great Movie!

First off, the animation is Amazing, compared to even just a few years ago!

I was really surprised how accessable it was for adults, its really not a "kids only" movie but a surprisingly good holiday movie about the wonder Christmas holds in our hearts. I wasnt spooked by the "dead eyes" of the charecters that some critics were complaining about, it is an animated movie afterall. It shouldnt be too hard to see this becoming an holiday classic. [tup]

train dvd flash street running out on dvd now after 3yrs of begging pentrex .ordered it wed from perrys hobbies.

I have seen the movie three times with my little 5 year old train engineer. I liked it better the second time around.

I may even need to buy the train set. and we will definitely buy the DVD when it is available.

Maybe there is hope. After all, DVD sales and rentals make up a large part of the total sales nowadays. I'm making a mental note to buy some copies for gifts next year.

Well it was sold out last Saturday when we went to the movies! second wind? Since the wife insists that "Alexander " was my choice (it wasnt) she now wants to see "Spongebob Squarepant" which I have to admit looks far better than "Alexander" (good battle scenes only plus) and far more intellectually stimulating than "Bridget Jones, the Edge of Tedium"[:D]

Do not fret!!! I am pretty sure that the "Polar Express" will transcend the Box Office hullaballoo and move right to holiday cult classic!!! That will, of course, be up to people like ourselves and organizations like yours.

Well, since my first post, my worst fears came to be, went to see, "Bridget Jones, the edge of whining" Uuugghhhh! what a drag! This one was just plain BORING and a stupid script! We were going to see Polar Express yesterday but it was sold out when we got their so it was "Alexander" yesterday, OK movie but I really didnt buy Colin Ferrel as the Conquerer of the known world, but the movie does have its high points, also rented The Cronicles of Riddick, if your interested rent the unrated directors cut, it has more footage and makes sense storywise compared to the theatrical release.

My wife, daughter and I saw the movie yesterday. All I can say is, FANTASTIC!!! The story line is great, Tom Hanks playing 5 characters was well done. We wanted to see it in IMAX 3D but, unfortunately, the showings for yesterday were sold out. After seeing the movie, I have to see it in 3D.

This is a must see movie and a must own in DVD!!!

Went to see "The Incredibles" last weekend, very very good movie and a couple of great train scenes, albiet brief...

My fear is that instead of "The Polar Express", I'll get dragged into "Bridget Jones the Edge of Reason" instead! ( The Horror! ) The first was the only movie that scared me more than "28 Days Later".

Anyone check out the new Polar Express movie yet? I went to see it over the weekend. It's all computer animated, for those of you overseas who might not be able to see it.

It's a Christmas story, which, I felt, was geared toward kids (who was the target audience). The sounds and size of the locomotive were quite impressive on the big screen! And A LOT of the movie took place in/on the train, so it was an integral part of the movie.

Kinda neat--the theater had a local club set up an O gauge layout, and they had Waldenbooks set up a display of train-related books (for kids and adults). Nice to see that exposure for the hobby.

As a side note, Trains magazine's January issue has a cover story on the locomotive used as the model for the movie. I grabbed an early copy here--can't wait to check that out.
