Battery Bachmann's had there own oddities, first never buy one unless it has the ORIGINAL radio controller, these had different frequencies so one controller may work for another engine. Without the RC unit they are razorsaw foder!

They were very light by todays standards(even loaded with 6 D cell batteries) and will only pull 2-3 cars, had plastic wheels and could easily get flat spots if left to sit on hot tracks in the sunshine, if for an extended period the body could warp! though I only heard of this happening once.

Some of the early Bachmann Big Haulers were radio remote with on board battery. I think they only make the track pickup version now (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). You still see the old battery one's come up occasionally on ebay.

I have never owned one (battery version) so can't tell you how good they are, I only heard one report which wasn't that favourable. So, so maybe someone on this forum who actually owns/ owned one can give you some more info.

Just remember that if you like desiels and like running mulltiple units(MU), that there isn't a good battery(ies) to run 4-5 units contantly for more than 20 minutes, unless you want to run 3 to 5 cars loaded with batteries [:O][:(] I'll stick with track power for now myself [;)]

I keep seeing the Bmann Battery op trains and with a good paint job they would probably work. I was just curious what other options i have. Any other ideas are good as well.

The only battery locomotives I know of are mostly kits of English manufacture.
And most are not cheap and not "G" but are 16mm scale to run on iether 32mm or 45 mm gauge some are dual gauge ie can run on both.
There is a US destributor but I cannot think of who it is off hand.
GRS and IP engineering in the UK have thier own brands of battery locomotives but these are probaly not what you are looking for.
Didn't Bachmann at one stage do a battery trian set don't know how good or bad it was
