I didn't know they had prebuilt battery modules (haven't looked at their website in a while) so thank you very much! This is perfect for what I'm looking for, since it takes out the electrical problems that could occur and this makes it simpler to operate. Again, thank you!

I never remove my batteries to recharge them.
You might consider a trail car that contains the battery if it's too difficult to install one in the engine. If you include the G Scale Graphics battery conversion module it is just a plug-in to recharge (just like a cell phone, assuming he has one).
For the Railboss, I'm sure he could get the controls, its just that the battery part scares me. I'm not sure I could get him used to the idea of removing the battery and recharging it.
I'm a RailBoss4 user and cannot imagine a more easy to use control system. At its most basic, a Stop/Direction, increase and decrease buttons. Binding an engine to a transmitter is just the push of two buttons; one on the receiver and one on the transmitter; a three step process.
I can't imagine that there would be any extra level of savvy to operate the RailBoss if your father can operate the remote on a television!
There is obviously the issue of batteries, since the RailBoss does not operate on track voltage, but those are relatively a simple plugin for recharging. While many will argue track power versus battery, there is definitely less effort in track wiring and maintenance with battery.
Good luck with whatever you choose. I'm certain that your father will be overjoyed at the effort and thoughtfulness of your gift.
I assume from the original post of needing the wireless attachments that the poster has the MTS system already and just needs to go wireless.
If this person has Digital/MTS locos then the suggestion of Battery systems will not help.
So, my suggestion for the original poster is to look at what system he presently has and if MTS III then go with the Massoth navigator for control as this will bring the MTS III to a better system (28 speed steps, more engine addresses (long address will be available).
Walthers is (as of 2014) the exclusive distributor for LGB products. This will change in 2015, but as of now, this is all we know.
If you've followed the large-scale hobby for more than a few years, you might already know that LGB went bankrupt and eventually was purchased by Märklin. Production of products has been slow and availability has been limited. I could not find what you're looking for on the Walthers site. Unfortunately, if you can't find a retailer with older stock on hand, you may need to buy secondhand on eBay or the like.

If it were me, I go Railboss and battery powered, but my dad is not to savvy with technology, so I am trying to use any easy system (and I mean real easy) from a manufacturer he is comfortable with, hence LGB. This system will allow my dad to be able to essentially have your basic LGB throttle in his hand, which is about all he knows, hopefully for now.
Why LGB when there are other systems available that do basically the same thing, and probably much cheaper. Look at the advertisements in Garden Railways magazine for systems such as Crest Electronics Train Engineer, CVP AirWire, or the Do-It-Yourself Junior Throttle system that is detailed on this site (scroll down until you see it).
I have been looking for these to give my dad RC control for the garden railroad I hope to build for him this summer. Everywhere I look these are out of stock. Is this merely a popularity issue and they will be restocked or have these been discontinued? I don't need them now, but I am a little worried that since they are all out of stock now I won't be able to get them later. Thank you for any help.
