Sracthbuilding....... A way to enjoy the hobby cheaply

Hey Ya'll

Before I discovered sracthbuilding, I was no where near a roster until christmas or until I got my job back, so I ventured into scratchbuilding.

I haven't stopped. So far I have built A caboose out of popsiclesticks (using CD case covers for windows, this is yet to be finished, inteirior has to be completed before putting the walls and roof on the car. I have the couplers and wheels though) A boxcar built from GR's plan set 68 by my shop teacher for me, a flatcar from set 67, and 3 gondoalas are on the way from him form the same plan set.

I have started to scratchbuild a locomotive, an 0-4-2T. I have the boiler (PVC pipe) the motor and wheels and the base and bunker complete. All I have to do, is order som detail parts, domes (I need 2) a chimney, and a large headlight.

I have scratchbuilt a station out of popsicle sticks, but It is to small for G-scale () scale more likeley)

The only thing I will not scratchbuild is the track and power supply.

When I finish, I plan to save money and buy a radio controlled system (locolinc or crest) and add a soun system.

I expect a nice bachmann set for christmas and the hobby shop hs a roof damaged bachmann car that is being dicounted for 34 dollars
(The damage is reparable as it is adent in one corner of the roof, the display case light was too hot and damaged that corner of the roof, but it looks like it's been in a rockslide or in a crash, so It looks prototypicle)

Bu besides all of that, I have spent less than 50 dollars on what I have done so fr, and I looks great.

Isn't this hobby grand

Nick
