You may not need a G scale specific person, however if you can get someone who has worked with large scale it would be a good thing. Over the years I've had everything from N to G. Each scale has it's own strengths and quirks. You approach theme and design differently. Think of it this way, I can get a decent model of the east broad top shop area including station, round house and sheds in 2 n track modules with a 6 inch addition to the module width. In G scale the main shop alone covers more area than the 2 n track modules. To get a mainline look and feel in G scale takes a lot more real estate than n scale or ho. Just my 2 cents. (not that its worth a whole lot). Good luck with your project
For a layout design, you do not really need a G scale specific person. If you want a professional, I would suggest Lance Mindheim: http://www.lancemindheim.com/ This guy is a frequent writer in Model Railroader. This guy also is frequent writer in Model Railroader: http://www.layoutvision.com/index.html Also, as I am also in N Scale, I know these two guys also do a great job: http://www.yardgoatlayoutdesign.com/ http://www.nztproducts.com/index.htm
Take a look at their websites and see which one you prefer.
