3 Truck Shay - FYI
Posted by Rex in Pinetop on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 11:37 PM

I discovered loose screws holding the drive wheels on 3 of the 6 axels.  This is not an area I normally inspect during lubes so it was just dumb luck that I found the wheels wobbling - about to fall off.

Hi Rex  Most manufactures point this out in manuals if not then any good model shop should point this out to the customer. I always check my Bachmann Consolidations when I service them.

Rex. Not an uncommon problem with Bachmann. A drop of threadlocker BLUE will keep them in place yet still allow removal of the screws if need be. Can be found at Lowe's in the glue sections. Jack

222 Locktite. Sometimes called Screwtite.

I have the full part number somewhere.

Same stuff you use on motor screws on early run 2-8-0's.

Once tight, they should not come loose.

Early Shays, yes, but that was a different kettle of fishes.

In a pinch, borrow some fingernail polish.
