The NCE system is one of the more popular choices for DCC in the garden; most of the guys out here who run DCC use at least their cab and command station. As has been stated above, you'll want to put all your components in some kind of case that can be easily transported to the railroad if there's not a nearby shed or similar weather-proof structure that you can use to house the parts.

The PowerCab with a 10 Amp booster could run a G-scale layout indoors with no problem, but you'll have to find a way to weatherproof your control area outdoors because none of those items are meant to be used outdoors.

Which NCE product are you asking about?   NCE decoders?  NCE PowerHouse?   NCE PowerCab?  NCE Twin?  NCE Stationary decoder?  NCE G-Wire Cab?

I have used an NCE G-scale decoder before converting everything to AirWire battery power, but not their system for running a G-scale layout.

We use the NCE PowerHouse Pro with radio throttles on our club's HO and N scale layouts, and I use the same system on my home HO layout, but not for G scale.

I have an NCE G-Wire Cab that is used with my AirWire equipped battery-powered locomotives, and it works just as well as any of the CVP AirWire cabs, except that it won't program an AirWire decoder.
