Who can tell me about New bright G (scale? )stuff. I figure it is only good for kitbashing? The stuff I see on E bay looks kinda toy-ish. I would believe indoor only. Are my assumsions correct? Thanks- Greg

New Bright, Urrgghhh!!!![:(] I call it New Blight ![V]

Mostly indoor but can be used outdoors, New Blight is the cheepie guady toyie G scale that makes grumpy HO rivet counters beroughedly dismis garden railroading as "plastic in the petunias"[V] and is also for most people their first exposure to large scale. [:(]

I hate this stuff, [}:)] I would only use it for parts and even then its limited to what you can use. I had recieved a set made by Echo (slightly better than New Blight). The trains are battery powered with the heavy batteries behind the engine in the tender. They tend to derail on switches riding up onto the frog then off into the bushes, the couplers dont work well with hook-n-loops, they can be replaced on some cars, not all. The "Sound" these things make while running sounds like an old can-opener straining to open a can of dogfood, and the "train sounds" are strictly kiddy ville. The detail level is strictly K-mart toy aisle quality and the colors are equally awefull. The best use is if you have small kids its a good hard to beat up train that the kids can call there own.

There seems to be quite a following on ebay but I've never met anyone who doesnt think these things are pure [censored].

I nuked the engine I had, scrapped into a dozen other projects, the cars I am trying to salvage into something respectable but its a challenge. [B)]

Bottom line..lf you have small kids that want to run trains on your layout but you dont particularly feel like handing the controls of your Bachmann 2-8-0 Consolidated over to them...these are a good choice to say, "now you have your OWN trains to run..." [;)]

   Have fun with your trains

I agree with Vic try to understand that working in your Railway (Railroad) outdoors is a different matter and you should think about operatig you layout in all weathers or it may be out in all weathers and that this is amajor consideration.

New Bright is not as rugged as most large scale trains and if you look at the cost, they are as expensive. Stay with the good stuff.

Thanks for the replies. My wife picked one up at a sale and I see lots of them on Ebay. My opinion of them is junk too! But I like the idea of leaving them for the kids. My son is 3 1/2. I'll let him trash it.

I have to say I've bought new bright off ebay. I thought I was buying a real g scale car at the time of purchase, but to my surprise when I opened the box that was shipped to me. I picked up the cars and said what the f**K is this piece of junk.
That was the start of me buying from sellers on ebay only products or items I liked, or new what I was getting first. To keep it simple DON'T BUY NEW BRIGHT its junk, not true g scale, runs on gauge #1 track 45mm track but very much under size to use as true g scale 1:20 - 1:29
I use my cars in a pond train wreck so nobody can realy tell what they are. I you want to buy this stuff ask a lot of question about the item first from the seller first re: size W x H x L and condition of item, and don't pay much for it because its real cheeply made.

If you have any other Questions about my experinces with new bright E-mail me mscott56@shaw.ca I will try to help
