Like a previous reply, I also would advise you to purchase a Bridgewerks Power Supply.  I just purchased a Bridgewerks 15 Amp Magnum 1000-DL.  This great,  pure DC power supply comes with a walk around remote control as an added feature.  No more being chained to the power supply location.  This model will power all your trains, and all the accessories you can find.  The best part it is made right here in South Carolina, no China junk.   Yes, it may cost you a little more to purchase now, but you will never need to buy another one.Wink

Happy Railroading,

Jim

My 3 Bridgewerks Transformers are also all Magnum 1000DL. I have one for each of the 3 mainlines. Call me crazy but I like to run multiple locomotive lash ups including ABBA lash ups and so having a Magnum 1000DL on each mainline is beneficial. Especially if I decide to run 3 trains with multiple locomotive lash ups. The most locomotives I had being powered by the Magnum 1000DL was 6 locomotives in a lash up on one train. But I was really pushing it to the limits. Plus Dave the owner has great customer service and is always freindly. I chat with him every year at the ECLS Show.

You definately need at least a 10amp power supply transformer. In my own opinion nothing beats a Bridgewerks Transformer. The are 100% made in American and have a DC filter in them which keeps the harmful AC spikes from getting to your locomotive. I own 3 Bridgewerks trainsformers and the oldest is 10 years old and still going strong. They also have great output selections on the back. Buy a Bridgewerks and you will never need another transformer again.

Hi    Has you do not say where you are based im working blind as how to help if in UK  for a power supply try Gauge Master  or Aristo Craft they have good outputs, 5amps or 10amps  You may find what you want on ebay BUT as we all say buyer beware.  I would always go to a G Gauge model shop.      Hope this helps.

I assume you are track power, but where do you go from here?

Staying with DC track power, DCC in the future, wireless control?

Need to narrow down the field to give better suggestions.

And if staying with track power I would make sure the next system was more than 5 amps.

I have owned and run LBG trains for many years beginning with a starter set - with grandkids.  I added rolling stock and another engine.  Power from original powerpack was sufficient.  I then bought a TECH II Dual Power 2800, which worked well.  I am now greatly expanding my hobby and bought a pre-owned MRC Power, Model AG990.  It runs the trains very well, but I cannot work the switches and other track accessories without using a separate power unit, i.e. TECH II.  I need some suggestions as to best option for my expanding railway (indoors) with 5 engines.  I am also exploring the RR Concepts control systems.
