Thanks for everyone's reply's.  The wires are red and blue and the transformer is gray.  I was able to connect the connectors underneath between two pieces of track as suggested.  I appreciate the help. It is working well and the granddaughter is enjoying it very much!

Since 50081 is the number for a LGB power pack and the connector described sounds like the LGB  5061 power cable, it does go on the bottom of the track with the thumb screw on the outside of the track.

Are the wires red and blue?  transformer is grey with a red knob, this makes both LGB equipment.

Attach the power blocks to the rails from underneath between the sleepers.

Lil' Critter connecting transformer
Posted by snydergc on Saturday, December 15, 2012 8:07 PM

I am new to trains (well since I was a kid). I picked up a used Lil' Critter train set Gauge #1 scale 1:29. It uses a 50081 transformer. When I was a kid the track had a special section of track that we used to connect the wires to. The wires with this set each have a plastic block with a metal screw that looks like it hooks over the track someway. However, I cannot see how this would work either over or under the track. The wings of the plastic block interfere with the railroad ties. If put on top they would hit the train. I must be looking at this wrong. It has to be simple, but I don't know how to connect it. I downloaded the instruction manual from AristoCraft, but it showed different transformers and connections to the track. Thanks for the help.
