Well, friends, I bought a Delton 4-4-0, a heavy, well-built, model with steel rods and all, a well-detailed model, but it has been sitting around for years apparently and now, on the track with power, the motor whirrrrrrs like it wants to do something but the gears and rods and wheels remain motionless.
Anybody have any idea of what's going on here or what to do about it? I look down into the motor box where, presumably, it needs to be oiled (and I put some oil in) but when I turn the wheels manually, the visible plastic gear doesn't turn.
Yikes.
Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

The obvious answer, at least to me is, a plastic gear has cracked and is just spinning on the shaft; or the motor has moved to such an extent that the worm gear is not engaged with the rest of the gears.
The only cure is to open it up and look.
Yeah, I was afraid of that.....I guess I just have to get out a real tiny screw driver and give it a shot. I dread it because I'm not real mechanically oriented, but at least it's g-scale and not some crazy thing like HO or N scale!
Thanks.
Hi If you are not sure on what you are doing, may I suggest you put it into a repair centre, I know it costs and I take it you are in US so there are plenty of repair places. Hope this helps.
