Dave, I will quick type out the "updated" gulapata recipe, since it's a minor part of the overall article:

1 60 lb. sack of ready-made mortar

One level shovel of fire clay

One level shovel of hydrated lime

One half shovel of Portland cement

Thanks Tom, I don't have the Dec 97 issue but the article  was avalible on line.   Gulapata was updated in the june 2004 issue with the mixing directions. Now I can realy go to town on the rebuild,

I believe it is spelled GULAPATA. I think it was mentioned in the December 1997 GR magazine.

some time back  there was an artical about gulopida ( beats me ) what issue was it in? the correct spelling would alsi be helpfull.
