Beer Can tank cars

I saw the other day at the convienence store they sell beer in LARGE cans and was wondering if they would be a good candidate for a unique tank car project. Has anyone else seen these or tried them. I think it would be fairly easy enough to build. Any thoughts? Where is the best place to buy trucks/couplers, etc for scratch building? Thanks [:)]

O guage 12oz beer-can cars have been around for a while, havent seen anything similar in large scale. The O cars used to be built with the old really solid cans, the kind that needed a can opener (My dad told me , I swear I'm not "that" old). The new mini kegs or Foster's Lager heavy duty cans could be a neat source for tank cars but the regular larger aluminum cans are too fragile for cars unless you filled them with resin. As for the under carriage a wood flatcar or a skeleton log car could be modified, or scratch the frame mounts. Hard to say without looking at the exact can itself to see how it could be modified.

Hmmm interesting idea. Trucks are readily available from AristoCraft, Couplers your choice? Bachmann, Aristo, Kadee?

The can I saw was for 32oz. Very thick walled. It wasn't your average aluminum gauge.
I will have to put this on my Winter to-do list.

If I were building it I think the car would be more of a skeleton car to hold Bud light longnecks, full ones for serving guest. Although the train would have to move very fast to keep away from my yellow Lab. HE LOVES BEER!

Matt I would have thought guests supply would have been best transported in the upright possition in high sided gondolas dog with built in can opener
