Non-LGB locos with the LGB MTS system

I use the LGB Multi-Train System (MTS) and am interested in purchasing some non-LGB DCC locos with sound systems. Before I make the investment, however, I want to be sure they will work with MTS.
1. What experiences have others had?
2. Do you recommend specific makes/models?
3. What should I stay away from?
Thanks in advance.
Ben

Hi Ben,[#welcome]
Iandor from Oz and Troybetts from UK both use MTS extensively and they will be able to advise you. Ian is working on phase 3 of his line and Troy is in the middle of relaying his track so they might not be on for a day or three.
Cheers,
Kim

Hello Ben.
I run MTS but so far only run LGB locos so I can't really help. One thing I have learnt is that if you stick an Aristocraft railbus thing on MTS on the analogue setting it melts the markerlights at the front.
My Dad is still speaking to me---just

Well I have little to say that is good about the MTS, I have had nothing but trouble with it, but I don't entirely blaim the system, more some of the people involved are not competent to sell and service the product in this part of the world. The directions as are all LGB instructions virtually ununderstandable in English. When it is working it is just th best thing absolutley the best. I operate points (switches) and several Locos at once and many great things. But in seven months that I have had it I have had it working properly for less than six weeks.
I would also check out your warranties both on the Locos and the decoders and the other MTS system, I would be surprised if you have any.
The argument has become so bitter i have taken legal action against my LGB supplier and we go to court next Friday I'll let you know how it goes.
Regards ian

Thanks for the feedback Kim, Troy and Ian. So far I'm only running LGB locos so I have not experienced any problems. I just want to be sure that if I invest in a loco from another manufacturer it will run with the MTS.

I use MTS and operate mostly LGB equipment. Can operate non decoder equipment with MTS. Can use all the MTS functions with the decoder equipped loco's and operate one non decoder equipped loco. Can actually opeate more than one at a time but they all have to do the same thing.

Hi Ben
I have had some experience the other way in that I have installed LGB decoders in my 2 Stainz locos as they were direct decoder compatible and invested in a Lenz Set 100 DCC power system. I have no complaint at this time.
The Lenz system, it appears is much more featured than the MTS such as on the main programming, but I have to put the Stainz on to the programming track to make any changes.
I would like to expand but I dont have the dollars at this time.
I am quite enjoying the DCC experience at this time.
Regards Martin
