Which LGB controller ?

My father-in-law left each of his kids one his LGB trains.  My mother-in-law gave us first choice.  The question I have is this.  There are 3 #5012 controllers and 1 #5007.  Which should we choose?

Hi    Ive just looked in my LGB Cat   but can not see numbers you have shown,    The loco you have the yard stick is the larger the loco the more power you need   IE 5amp for a 2-4-0   2-6-2   or 2-8-0   if the loco has two motors then go for a 10amp one.

LGB 5012:

Appears to be 14v DC, one amp:  "LGB G-Scale Analog Throttle, item number 5012.  "Signalman's Hut" Check the underside of the unit.

 

Based on this, I would stick with the 5 amp, the 1 amp will run one "light" loco, maybe two small LGB locos. Many typical large scale locos can draw over an amp easily.

Like the others have said, Grab the one with the most Amperage, it will be the most usefull

LGB 5012 is really a 2 amp unit and was designed to allow full power to pass through at full turn of the throttle and was a DC input only.  This was a green hut. 

 

Red hut was a 5 amp and would take AC or DC power input.
