I was wondering if anyone had the color formula for making Canadian Pacific's Tuscan Red. I can't seem to find a Canadian dealer and it can't be shipped across the border.
Many thanks

Well I know there is (or was until recently?) a Canadian company that specialized in accurate Canadian RR paints. Of course, I can't think of the name right now, guess I can dig out a recent "Canadian Railway Modeller" issue when I get a chance.
Several US manufacturers make Canadian Pacific maroon...plus it's the same color as Soo Line maroon, which is also available.
The old (19th century) Wisconsin Central used wood passenger cars made of redwood. According to the story, when the Soo Line took over Wisconsin Central, they liked it and started painting their passenger cars maroon red to match the varnished redwood cars. Then Soo's parent company CP decided that looked good, and they started painting their passenger cars maroon.
Hi
Thanks for the reply. The red passenger cars ran as "The Dominion" once the "Canadian" cars came into use. I didn't know the colour came from the Soo line. I know that the Dominion was broken in two Winnipeg when they were on the Eastern run. It was tour cars heading south. They were accompanied by a diner to Thief River Falls where a US crew would pick them up. A similar grouping of cars would be attached to a crew car and head north the next morning. A crew car was attached. It was unusual for the Canadian crew since the diner crew always slept in the diner car itself.
Thanks for looking for the colour, I appreciate it.

Weaver sells CP Tuscan Red, I don't know if they ship to you or not. BUT, the best thing I can think of is to take a color chip (or "colour" if you prefer :)) to the local paint shop and have them scan it and mix up a gallon of brew. Sure, it's not model paint and a gallon is a lot, but it is latex and it can be properly thinned with alcohol or Windex and used for models. I've done it myself and it costs about $20 or so. You can take the unused paint and dispense it into 4oz bottles and give them to your friends.
