Who lives near who?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, July 22, 2004 9:35 PM
We are a worldwide forum and it would be nice to know who lives near who. I think my closest neighbour is a guy who only shows up from time to time, his name i think is Tony and he lives in New Zealand about 2500 km away or more like 1500 miles. Phil in South Australia is about 4000 km and John is about another 1000 to 2000 km further on. Vic is also fairly close only 11000 km (7 - 8000 miles) across the Pacific

The furtherest away is Kim or maybe Troy, half a world and you can't go further than that un;less you start coming back again!

I am also 10 hours ahead of Greewich time and the forum is 6 hours behimd.

Ian, there a whole bunch of Queenslanders hang out on the MLS forum, and Sydney has a very active LS club. Check their website here:

Best I can tell, I am very fortunate to live near OLD DAD. He's about 45 minutes away from me. I've had the pleasure of meeting Larry twice at our Garden Railroad club's open houses. If things go well, I'll see him again on Saturday to make it thrice. [;)]

I live about 55 miles northwest of St. Paul/Minneapolis in Minnesota, USA.

I'm an hour southeast of Philadelphia in southern New Jersey, which is called South Jersey by those who live here. There are about a half-dozen of us who stay in touch through myLargescale.com, as well as by visiting.

In the Delaware Valley, which makes up the greater Philadelphia area, there are also some nice large scale shops. Although our weather can range from 0 to 100 degrees F during the course of the year, generally it is moderate so we have an excellent garden railway environment.

By the way, that photo above includes my Lehmann Porter on the left, and Rick R.’s Bachmann industrial 2-6-0 during a visit to my layout. We always try to bring something to run during a visit.

Regards,
Bill C.

I dont want to find out that i am the only one. The store 10 minutes away never seems to run his trains, pitty, the layout seems so nice.

I live in Deep River, CT. which is midway between New Haven and New London about five miles north of Long Island Sound. The only forum member that I'm aware of is someone who lives in Trumbull, about thirty miles away.

The closest person to me I suppose is Kimbrit in Blackpool England.I don't know of anyone else in Great Britain posts here which is a shame.I have no chance of ever seeing some of the great layouts that I see here.Even the clubs are miles away from me.I'll just carry on building my little isolated empire[:)]
At least no-one can frown on the crazy things I do with the railway!

I live in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. I feel like I am the last remaining unicorn, or dragon, or something. There is nobody within 5000 miles of me. Is there??? Anybody out there?? I would fall over and faint if another South African answered. I am sure that I am all alone.

I live in Premont, Texas which is approx 200 mi North of Brownsville and 250 mi South of the Alamo in San Antonio (everyone remembers the Alamo, don't they). I think the closest person to me is Bluebonnet-71 in Houston, Texas; lest of course some of Corpus Christi, the Rio Grande Valley or San Antonio posts here beyond my knowledge.

Near Houston about 32 miles due South deep in the woods...leased I can not see my buddies next door.
That is why I need a train horn "P3" please or a "Steam Whistle" to blow @ 4:00am every morning [}:)][:D][}:)][:D]

I'm not sure who would be concidered near other than Buckeye riviter. Benny where is Lebanon located in the state? I have family in South Western PA. I thought of going to Monroville for the train show this weekend and visiting my Grandma, but this weekend was also my tenth anniversery. The wife might have frowned on a trainj show.

Hi
My name is Tony, ( Refer web site www.gscalechuffchuff.com)
I am the grumpy looking fella in the photo. If you want to know Why i looked grumpy my wife took the photo. She is one that says smile for the camera but takes so low to take the picture that rigger mortus sets in.

At my age you can only say sex for so long...
I live in Trentam, which is a suburb of Upper Hutt, North Island, New Zealand.
We are 18 hours ahead of the forum time so when you were into September 11, we were well into September 12th....From that logic we knew about your trade centre before you, but of course it does not work that way.

Anyway, Garden railways fanatics are like hens teeth around here and if their is anyone local send me a message...

Tony

I am most gratified to hear from you all, maybe if we go on some more we will find some one closer than we thought and make soem worthwhile acquaintances..

Could i ask everyone to either not use abbreviations or better still explain them, yes explaining is better. Dont forget people a thousand miles away may have no idea of what you mean irrespective of how familiar it is to you.

For your info Phil I am quite aware of other railway people around me here in Queensland, i can access a list of them from the LGB Garden Railway club in Sydney of which I have been member for years. I am surprised that you haven't read many of my articals published in the clubs magazine. The last one was labled "Echoes from the Deep North"

Thanks for the adivce though.
