It's a crapshoot, really. Different manufacturers use different inks/paints for different lettering. What works for one color may not work for another, to say nothing of from one manufacturer to another.
Usual suspects you can try...
Denatured Alcohol, "Super Clean" degreaser, Brake fluid, "Easy Lift Off" by Testors.
Try them on an inconspicuous spot if you can, to find out if they work on the lettering, the paint, or both. In most cases, you'll want to soak the lettering for a bit so whatever you're using can take effect.
Good luck.

Removing the 'Road Name' can be a dicey thing. It depends on who the manufacturer is and what run of manufacture. There are several methods used to put the road name on, and each has a different method to remove them. I am not real familiar with the GR site, but I don't remember a search feature being available.
There are two other great forum sites available to large scalers, Mylargescale.com and Largescalecenteral.com. Both have a search feature and I know both have multiple threads on this very subject. I recommend you peruse these sites and see if the information you are looking for is there. If not, join and ask. There are plenty of great people on both sites that will be more than willing to provide good information on the removal of 'Road Names'.
Happy Railroading.
