I have used Walthers Solvaset to remove lettering from LGB cars. The lettering on LGB cars isn't a decal it's paint applied by some sort of stamping process. The Solvaset will remove it. Put some on and let it set for 5 minutes then use a Q-tip and start working it off. Add more Solvaset as needed. This process won't hurt the car as usually LGB doesn't paint their cars they just mold them in the color they need then letter them.
Thanks for your replies.
I haven't yet tried any of the suggestions mentioned but will be looking into them. There is a similar post and discussion happening on an adjacent topic thread. Someone there mentioned trying brake fluid, so I did. My father-in-law had some on hand. However, it was to no avail. Goo Gone was also mentioned somewhere and that didn't work either (had tried that one first).
The process of elimination will continue as the suggestions are tried.
thanks

Michael,
Have never tried LGB cars, but have had some good experience using SuperClean on Bachman cars.

It's not easy to remove LGB lettering without damaging the underlying color. At least that has been my experience.
I was told to use a product called Eagle One Nevr-Dull. It worked well and removed the lettering, but it made the area where the lettering used to be shinier then the rest of the body color. I ended up repainting it.
I should add that this was for an older LGB mogul (1988 era) so newer LGB lettering may be easier to remove or may be harder to remove.
For some freight car repaints, I didn't bother removing the lettering and simply repainted over the cars. Scalecoat II works well and covers extremely well, I use an airbrush.
Here's what the repainted LGB gondola looks like:

Hi Michael, Every one has there own answer to that problem, I was speaking to a supplier and was advised that removel with modern lettering at point of manufactoring you may damage the base colour if that happens you will need to respay them. Hope this helps

Hi,
A search of the forum hasn't answered a specific question that I have.
I have a five year old LGB PRR starter set along with a couple of extra cars to complete the train. I would like to remove the PRR lettering and eventually add a new rail name. I would like to keep the original base colour, which is brown. Any suggestions as to how to remove the lettering from this particular train? As I mentioned, a search of the forum hasn't provided an answer in this particular context. I wanted to ask before I got involved in all of the trail and error with the suggestions that were mentioned for other train brands and lettering styles.
thanks,
