tHANKS YOGI, I TRIED YOUR SUGESTION, AND IT WORKS GREAT. i HAVE 3 MORE TANK CARS AND IM GOING TO REPLACE THEIR HANDRAILS WITH NEW BRASS USING THIS METHOD.  JIM

Forgot to add drill holes for the pins in location of old brackets. Use your favorite glue to secure pins in holes.

Look for small carter pins as replacements for the broken stanchions.

If they need to stand-off a little, put a piece of shrink tubing over the pin of the length you want and heat for a tight fit. If need be, add layers of shrink tubing to "beef" up the size of the stanchions.

I have several tanks im going to clean up rewheel change handrails, ect, Problem brackets that hold handrails, some are broken, does anyone know where you can get new brkts, These are all bachmann cars., already have the brass for rails.
