Problems with a mallet...
Posted by Gundy on Monday, January 17, 2011 9:44 AM

Hello everyone.  I hope your winterprojects are going smoother than mine.  I purchased a used mallet from a gentleman, and i just put her on a test stand to find 2 things happening.  I'm using an aristocraft 5700 transformer to power this.  I turned on the power and the lights came on.  In the reverse position, the lights wrked fine on the tender, however in the reverse and forward position, the right side number board and red marker light don't work.  Uopn inspection the lights were burned out.  The more troubling thing is that when i put the transformer to 30% power the front notor starts to turn the drive rods.  The rear ones are not moving!  Noew when i increase to just over 50% power the rear ones start to move.  Is this common?  I asked the guy  about it and he said that he only had aristocraft revolution in it, and he removed it just befor shipping.  My biggest concern, is that there is something wrong with this engine, and that is why the guy was selling it.  The engine was a 2004 model so any help would be greatly appreciated.  thanks Gundy

When I first got my Mallet the rear motor block wouldn't run at all.  I called Navin at Arsto and he had me send it in to repair under warrenty.  When I got it back everything worked great.  Occasionally since then the front motor block will bind up when under heavy load.  If I back it up and go forward again it will run fine.  I discoverd that the screws on the rods had loosened up over the years and I've tightened them, but they probably aren't in exactly the right position.  But It's very seldom that it binds and so I've just lived with it.  If it gets worse I'll send it in for repair.
