They'll run on the same batteries. 14 volts should be more than sufficient for both of them. The prototypes for neither of them would win any speed competitions. On 7.4 volts, my 0-4-0 tops out at around 15 scale mph, so at 14 volts, figure somewhere around twice that for maximum speed. You'll probably still run it on the slower end of the spectrum, but standardizing on one battery is a good thing, whether you're making them removeable or not.

Battery Power for bachmann porter
Posted by recaper on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 4:04 PM

Hi everybody, I took the porter apart today. The side tanks are full of weight,i don't want remove the weights so I'm going to convert the little guy to oil and pull a sloped back tender with battery's:). My question is will the porter and the three truck shay run on the same size battery's so i can standardize on one size battery say 14 or 18 volt or will i need two different size battery's?   Thanks
