Hi guys, is it possible to use HO scale to build a garden railroad?
Anything is POSSIBLE, the question should be how practical is it. When I say anything, that is exactly what I mean. For a time within my G (1:22.5) GRR there was a "Garden Railroad". Douglas Flatbottom President and CEO of Rosebud Falls Scenic Railways had an operating layout.
OK,
I’ll quit putzing with you. The "layout" within my layout was Z scale stuff. It worked very well, for a time. The ties rotted away rather quickly (NOT UV resistant), the track would also get hooked up in the dogs fur. The few buildings I had quickly fell apart, (NOT waterproof, NOT UV resistant). I’ve been "rebuilding" the Z GRR-in-GRR on a sheet of Lexan for use as a put it out when in use, put it in storage as needed.
You see the limitations, accept the liabilities, compensate for mother nature, make your plans, then get to work in the dirt.

I see you asked the same question over on the Model Railroader magazine forums -- look at the answers there.

Do you mean Standard gauge HO in the garden or use it in narrow gauge like Gn15? - Peter

Yes, it is called Gn15. Ozark Miniatures has some stuff in that scale but I think (like 7/8th scale) most everything is scratchbuilt.
Take a look at this website: http://www.gn15.info/
Yes, But you need to use UV stabilized track componets and equipment.
