Looks nice, BUT, Photo posting is quite different. I use Photobucket and here is how I had to change the process.
OLD was: Copy the "IMG code" from Pbucket and paste it directly into the text.
NEW way: Copy the "Direct Link" code, open the "film strip" icon here and copy the link into the box. Change the MAX Height in the pic posting box. It looks to be defaulted to ZERO, so pic are ZERO pixels tall. Change height to allow your pic to show.
Looks like a new set (or at least new additions) to the emoticons.
Don't forget to reset your profile page, else the forum will fill your inbox everytime some one posts a message.

Go to your "Profile Page" and set the type font to a larger size. There are four available and the small one is way to small for my eyes.
So this is the new new ?
Is there a way to get rid of the info on the right of the screen, this would be nice?
Looks nice so far.
Sean
Rene,
You also lost the opportunity to remove a lot of visual rubbish from the web site and interface -and in fact you have added more... I know that I have an extremely high speed connection here at work. But the delay and lag caused by all the various things having to load and position themselves is frankly annoying.
I am at this point in the web site trying to type an entry. The entry box is all that is required surely? Why do I need the other 12 boxes with all their ticks option etc that do nothing more than increase the amount of time and processor power required simply to type this.
Go back to your Web Design Dept and give them "Could Do Better".

Hi Rene
It seams to work Ok here. However I would like to see the videos under Community rather than How To.

This is new, how? You were given a heads up about removing pop-ups, so you added an over sized sidebar. This is better, because...??? You should have added more topic headings. But you decided to keep the same 4 headings. Adding more would have been an improvement. You have made it annoying for anyone to visit here. Okay, I said it. Beat me up. Dennis
OK so what happened to the edit function??
Dave
The head is gray, hands don't work , back is weak, legs give out, eyes are gone, money go's and my wife still love's Me.
I will be looking through things in detail.
Hi Guys and Girls, Just remember that Rene is one person, it was a whole team of people that would have said yea or nay to the changes so give Rene some credit she is the one we see posting updates as part of her job. If you want to complain give the boss an email.
I found the "Edit" button by clicking on More next to Reply on the top right of the post.
Yes, the edit button is on the right side of the post area, near the reply button.
Also, the site and forums will be slow for a few days while everything is refreshing/rebuilding. I am experiencing that myself.
Well, I don't mind it. Actually seems cleaner in appearance. The sidebar ads don't bother me either. Afterall this is a business website, is free, and something has to pay for the bandwidth.
Regards
Gary
dwbeckett OK so what happened to the edit function?? Dave
Dave: On the far right top corner is a "MORE" button. It has a drop down window with all the old options, and 2 new(?) ones.
I used to be able to go to Garden Railways Forums and tell by looking which groups had messages I had not read. That is gone. I can click and have it list the unread messages, but it doesn't give me the opertunity to mark them all read. It doesn't tell me which group each message is from. I have to go back to Garden Railways Forums and go to each group to mark messages as read. I would like to know on the Garden Railways Forums page which groups have unread messages they way it used to be. The new is not better than the old.
Tom
Let's see if I can post a photo from my website...
Seems to work ok as long as I know the exact dimensions of the image.
One thing that has improved... now the forum software doesn't delete the spaces between my paragraphs. That's nice. The old software always ran everything together, and I had to use a lot of dots to create enough separation to make it readable.
Let me try posting photo also. Hum....

I think posting pictures is easier than the old method. I like it.
ValleycrestRR, there are some shortcuts on the page under your profile box (the one with your avatar and several options). There's a box called "Shortcuts" and in there is an option to see "posts you have not read."
Rene
When I click on that, it will list all the unread posts on ALL TRAINS.COM FORUMS. That is not very helpful. I don't want to list the unread posts. I just wanted to know which groups have unread post (without going to the group) like it used to do. Please reread my previous post.
I have given the new web site a few days trial. I really expected some big changes and improvements. I don't think moving things around on the pages is an improvement. It causes confusion and makes things less user friendly. I don't see alot of new and different things. The site is very slow. One improvement is having a place to put photos. I am quite disappointed. I think Trains has done more harm than good to all their sites. I hope they don't try to make similar changes to the magazines.
I personally don't like the new forum. I like to view not only the garden railways forum but also the model railroader and trains forums. It was handy having them all together so that I could just scroll down the list, but unless I'm missing something here, now I will have to jump all over in order to read the different forums.
As for picture posting, I haven't posted that many but if it is any more complicated than copy and paste I probably won't post any more. If someone were to do a step by step easily understood post on adding pictures then I might be tempted to try.
Some of us older modelers are not all that computer savvy and when they talk about adding a tag or similar we get confused. Aren't tags something you put on your dog?
Ron
I agree with you Ron. The old forum layouts were MUCH better and more user friendly. You have to jump all over to do anything on the new forums. I don't get the feeling that the web designers are real users of these forums. If they were, it would not take long for them to figure out how negative the changes they made are.
I don't know if the speed will ever improve, but I can't imagine how painful it must be for a person with a dialup connection. The young web designers think everyone has a 3 ghz computer with 12 gigs of ram on a high speed internet connection.
I agree sooooooooo slow to load.
smcgill I have a high speed internet connection and I find it very slow. What the hell is going on??? I agree sooooooooo slow to load.
