Classic Rail Train Set made by Echo

How do I remove that "clicking/clacking" noise from the engine found in the Classic Rail Train Set made by Echo? I tried to open it up, but it was unsuccessful. There were screws underneath the wheels, which were impossible to reach. Were there different models produce over the years by Echo? I find the Echo's 2-6-0 Mogul to be more accurate than Scientific Toys LTD's 2-6-0 Mogul.

some engines are just plain noisy.My son's Thomas engine is the worse.Lots of loose hideous plastic gears.I took it apart and found there was nothing I could do with it.I havn't the money to do a complete rebuild so we just put up with it.Troy

I suppose you could try to add a few drops of LaBelle model train lubricants availible at your Local Hobby Shop (LHS) But outside of that, the best way I have found to get rid of that "fork in a blender" sound so endearing to Echo New Bright and Scientific toy engines is to take a screwdriver remove all the screws, dissasemble the entire engine, take all the detail body parts like the cab, bell, domes, stack pilot, etc. put them into a box, now pick up the motor assemebly, walk over to nearest trash can and DROP THAT P.O.S. into it.

Sorry but theres really nothing you can do to get rid of that grinding sound. Afterall these are ultra-cheap engines and they reflect that in their mass-produced-by-Chinese-prisoner-slave-labor quality. Keep the parts for kitbashing projects, they are least good for that. I have used the scavanged parts from the one Echo set I got as a present one year from a well-meaning relative.

The answer is simple the secretary of our club here in Oz has a Shay that does the same thing and there are two answers.

1) get a sound unit to drown out the noise, or better still add to it.

2) I f you can't hide feature it, call it "clicker" thats what Colin did.

As for the screws being to deep.
Go to Radio Shack or some place like it and get a set of screw/phillips head drivers that come in a plastic case. They mostly reach hard inset screws.
