I have been ill and haven't been on for a while.
I lift my front coupler into place with my fingers. It does push down into place.
For a more prototypical solution, get a small piece of jewellry chain and connect the coupler to the coupler lift bar.
I've been going to do this but haven't gotten around to it.

Hey, I am talking about the front coupler on the boiler. The drop style coupler that the K4s were equipped with once they went with the solid pilots. Does the coupler actually move into the niche and back into the dropped position for double heading? If so, what type of mechanism drops the coupler and raises it? Proto-electric (like on some MTH tenders) or manual? Thanks.

I got the message from you, but the link to reply doesn't work. I'm not sure exactly what you want to know. Are you talking about the attachment of the rear coupler on the tender, or the connection between the loco and tender? Other?
Hi Jim, I read about your conversions to the K4 on Greg's site. Man, that stinks. I see there is an AML k4 on ebay right now that has been sitting for a few months. Brand New in box too. However, if this engine requires that much work I don't know if I want to bother.
I have a postwar K-4. The tops of the lights on the tender are level with the top lip.

HI, new here, and I know this is the live steam section, but I had a post about this and it seems to have vanished. I was trying to decide between the post war or pre-war version of the live steam that will come out some time in the near future. If you have the electric post war version, are the tender marker lights located atop the back of the tender, or on the back side of the tender below the top edge? Thanks. Pictures would be welcomed.
#1361 is post war. No pilot lights on the modern solid pilot.
