I am in the process of building a OO/HO garden railway in Australia. I've used Peco code 100 flexible track and Peco code 100 electrofrog large radius points, (you have so much more room outside).

For controlling my locos I use NCE Procab radio as its easy to use and has a good range.

For baseboards I've used 15mm exterior ply and 4x2 treated pine framing and they're all painted.

Mine is a high level layout as I have a sloping block of land. You MUST build your foundations solidly so as to have no movement on your track base.

The only trouble I've had is with native parrots which try to rip off the soldered rail joint bonds, so I've had to make hinged covers for the layout. I've had no trouble with hot sun and we get summer temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. Don't be put off if others say OO/HO won't work outside, because it can.

I am in the process of switching from O scale to HO. Can anyone please tell me which track is best to use. Is the MRC Prodigy Advance worth buying, or is there another DCC system that is better. Like I said I am new to HO so please help. Thank you

I had MRC Prodigy Advance, I wasn't happy with it so I sold it. Although very user friendly, and extremely easy to hook up, without going into detail, there are a lot of 'bugs' in this system. I wouldn't recommend getting one.

I'm saving up for NCE instead.

Hello, this is the Garden Railways forum where we play outside! You might wan to check with the Model Railroader forum as they deal with the scale you are involved in. Have fun. - Peter
