Just a couple more questions about spine roadbed for OLDDAD. First, the lumber yard down the street has CorrectDeck. It's a polyethynlene & woodfiber composite. Would this be along the line of trex? Second, how often and how far into the ground do you drive the stakes? Thanks for your help.

From your description "CorrectDeck" and "Trex" appear to be very similar, just make sure to buy solid core planks....no holes in the center. Try 1 plank first; take it home cut your splines and spacers then try building a straight section of roadbed. If you like the system buy more material and build the remainder of your roadbed.
If you don't like spline roadbed use the section you have on hand to build a plate girder bridge.

As far as driving stakes into the ground goes; I prefer to sit my riseres ON the ground with "feet" screwed to the bottom to prevent them from sinking into the dirt.
Frost heave in Minnesota is every bit as much as N.Y. and our line has had no trouble with the track in ten years.
