Hi What sort of sound card are you thinking og using? If a good one then I would change the wheels to metal ones and pick up power from track. I use phoenix sound in all my locs. Hope this helps

You could buy a Small Scale Railways sound card. It's easy to fit in the tender, and it runs on a 9 volt battery, so you don't need to worry about power. It requires that you mount a small infrared sensor, and paint one of the axles half white. The sensor reads the painted axles, and that generates a steady chuff. It blows a whistle and rings a bell in a pre-programmed sequence. It sounds pretty good--you can hear sound samples at the website:

OOPS! I just checked the website and he says he's sold out, no info about when they will be back. Try emailing him.
I used and LGB powered tender. It has a motor, its own pickup shoes, sound, and reed switches for the bell and whistle sounds. Most are available at around $260. Seems pricey, but that extra motor sure cmes in handy. Regards, Dennis.
Is thist for their American starter set engine or another type of steamer? LGB sells a replacement, unlettered, sound tender to go with the American style starter set locos. They go for about $90 (?) I'll find the link and post it, maybe someone else knows.
