I don't have one of these locomotives, but in HO and some G scale, "sound ready" just means that there is a space set aside for a speaker; it does not mean that a speaker is included.
When I purchased a Phoenix sound system, they included a very high quality speaker, but it may not fit into your particular model because their speaker has a very large magnet.
In this case "sound ready" means there is a speaker on board
What type of power? Regular track power DC, or some form of remote control?
The DCC/RCC ready means you can plug in the QSI, or the Revolution TE or Tony's RCS receivers.

I'm considering purchasing this diesel locomotive.EMD GP-40 Diesel Locomotive (ART-23503. which says ( DCC/RCC and sound-ready). Does this mean that after I get the locomotive home I have to buy a sound system after market in order to hear a horn or engine sound?
Thanks for your input in advance
