When the 4-4-0 first came out, some folks were using Lionel wheels (!) as replacements. They're quite small. Check with Hartland Locomotive Works. Their 4-4-0 uses much of the old Kalamazoo chassis, though much improved. They'd be able to tell you for certain, but I'd bet their 4-4-0 front truck would work quite well.

Anyone know off the top of their heads a metal wheel replacement for this classic locomotive's pilot truck?
