Dillon: Tile in an upstairs room is pretty well out of the question. (Designed as a bedroom, but we use it as a computer room.) As far as dogs go, we have a small herd or Papillons.

Staining of the carpet is a far gone conclusion, just not black ones.

Sidebar note:  Seems as though she had just spilled a bunch of toner from old laser printer cartridge and she was bringing the shoe down to clean it up.  The black eye was easily washed off.  The stain on the carpet is another story.

After having had Toby (our almost 12 yo Pembroke Welsh Corgi) throw up on our 13 year old rug after Ruby (our almost 6yo PWC) has done it for about two dozen times, the solution I would suggest is tile.  Either ceramic or porcelain.   Sadly, this will probably run you about the same as a good live steamer, but less than a heated and air conditioned dog house.  :Big Smile

Picture this: It is New Years Eve, I just got home from work, and picked up the mail on my way home. I’m sitting at the dinning table with a ham sandwich in hand, tall glass of ice tea nearby, reading (scanning through, actually) the Feb issue. I hear my wife come down the stairs. I look up and see a bedroom slipper (soft fuzzy type) gracefully wafting through the air in a perfect parabolic arch directly at my face. She screams "What are you doing with magazines of naked women?" I hold the magazine up and said, "this is Garden Railways and this is Ray’s article on how to construct figures for the garden." To which she replies "Well you tell him he shouldn’t make them so real looking!"  Though you would enjoy her comment.
